1. Label Your Boxes

Make sure you're as organised as possible by labelling your boxes! The level of labelling is personal preference, you could pack a box for each kitchen cupboard or be a little more relaxed about it and pack a box for each room. No matter if you're moving in yourself or hiring a removals company, having boxes in their correct rooms without opening them up, will make the day so much easier.

2. Redirect Your Post

Before moving make sure you complete Royal Mail's redirection service, you don't want to miss any important documents! The form can be filled in up to 6 months before and after your actual moving date, but you will need to give at least 5 working days' notice to arrange redirection.

See Royal Mail's Redirection Service here.

3. Change Your Address

Not registering your new address could land you in a spot of bother. In the event of an accident, your car insurance will be null and void if it is still registered at your previous address.

You will also need to update your driver's license, your doctor's records and bank details.

4. Compare Removal Costs

We don't recommend carrying your bed down the stairs single-handedly as this could cause you some serious injury. Removal companies are great options if you'd prefer someone else to do the heavy lifting. We recommend shopping around and finding the best quote for you. You should also consider how cost-effective it might be to hire a van and do it yourself with a good set of helpers!

If you are considering a removal company we can offer a no-obligation quote here.

5. Keep Out The Essentials

Moving day is thirsty work so make sure you leave out the essentials to make a good brew! Some other essentials to leave out are a phone charger, some snacks, a toolkit and toiletries.
