History
The name Chadderton is derived from the Celtic ‘Cader’ or ‘Cater’ signifying a fortified place in the hills. The town played a key role in Manchester’s industrial transformation with the construction of multi-storey steam-powered mills for the ever-growing textile and cotton industry.
